After a quick introduction, Brian Culbertson started the show with a fan favorite called “So Good.” The whole band was really into it as Brian finished it out on trombone. He kept things moving along with “Go” from his Live From The InsideCD followed by the up tempo “Always Remember.” I enjoyed this one a lot as he really worked the keys over and featured al the horns.

Next he introduced one of the four new tunes from his latest release XII. “That’s Life” became an instant crowd favorite as he followed up with “I Wanna Know” from his Nice and Slow CD that featured Kirk Whalum originally, and featured some nice work from Marqueal Jordan on sax. Band intros were a lot of fun as they ended up with another new one called “It’s Time” which featured Brian on trombone and had a great ending! He introduced a song that he had written with Dave Koz called “All About You” that featured Brian on keys for some really nice work.

A little way into the crowd and he found a nice lady to help him on the vocals to another one called “Eyes Wide Open.” The catchy melody is one that lingers long after the music is over. After a couple of giveaways, they hit the ground with “Say What” from Come On Over followed by another one from the new disc entitled “Forever.” Everyone was on their feet for the Earth Wind and Fire classic “Serpentine Fire” as well as the energetic “Funkin Like My Father.” These are always popular in his set. He slowed the pace down with the always favorite from Secretscalled “On My Mind” followed by a nice drum solo that featured Brian.

The fun continued with another from Bringing Back the Funkas the band enjoyed “Hollywood Swingin.” Culbertson brought out the trombone and finished the evening with “Get It On.” The crowd rose in approval and brought out the band once more for the encore. The introspecting “Our Love” was a wonderful way to finish out the evening. The slow deliberate pace of Culbertson on keys sent them all away with some real magic on this special evening.
